Insurance is highly recommended, but generally not required by law. Of the 4 major insurance categories, life, home, auto and health, the only one that is required by law, generally is car insurance. It is required by law in almost every state with certain minimums.
Some personal agreements and personal contracts, such as divorce agreements, may require insurance in accordance with the contract, but it is not required by the government. Another example of a contract that may require insurance is a mortgage. The bank usually requires the borrower to carry home insurance.
Just because it is not required by law, you should investigate your insurance options as it is a very important of any financial plan.
