PLPD insurance is just the bare minimum required by your state. Almost every state requires people to have car insurance according to certain minimums of liability. PLPD is an acronym for “personal liability, personal damage” but has become synonymous with the minimum.
PLPD insurance does not protect one’s own car from damage, and for this reason, is generally not allowed on leases.
Be careful with this type of minimal insurance as you are liable for all damage in a car accident, not just the limits of your liability. If your insurance does not cover the costs, either physical damage, death or medical, you will be responsible for it.
